Spring 2015 Must-Haves
cool stuff you probably need for spring
So, spring is pretty much in full swing now (except Colorado because I think it snowed there…you okay Colorado?) and that means transitioning your wardrobe fully. Spring cleaning and preparation for a new season filled with new trends can be difficult, but I’m here to make it easy. Every spring there are a few things you can count on as staples, like florals for example. But incorporating trendy pieces into your spring/summer wardrobe can be difficult to do if you don’t want to break the bank. This spring its about classic pieces with a few fad/trend pieces, and here are my suggestions of what to buy and how to work them into your existing wardrobe.
1. Felt hat
Felt fedoras, panama hats, and floppy hats have been on trend for about a year and a half now and I seriously doubt that the trend is going to end anytime soon. A felt hat adds a nice bit of character to any outfit and ultimately it makes you look like you tried a little harder, even if you are just trying to hide a bad hair day. Hats for the spring/summer season are great because it protects your face and eyes from the sun while still being super trendy and chic. If you haven’t already invested in a hat, I suggest doing so. Good places to start looking include H&M, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, and Forever 21.
2. D’orsay flats
I am not the biggest supporter of flats, specifically ballet flats. I don’t think they make anyone’s feet look particularly flattering and I am also not a huge fan of toe cleavage (it’s a thing). D’orsay flats however have been making their rounds for a while and I think I’m finally sold. They make any outfit look super sophisticated and classy without making it look like you’re about to walk into a business meeting. You can find these pretty much anywhere nowadays at varying price ranges, but look at places like Forever 21, Sole Society, Aldo, and ASOS. These are most likely my next purchase, because they are just so dang cute!
3. Spring-y jeans
I am a firm believer in jeans. I think that jeans are a staple in anyone’s wardrobe and having a nice pair of jeans is very important. I also believe that it is important to have a pair of trendier jeans as well because it can spice up your outfit without being over the top. Sometimes darker denim is too overpowering for warmer months, simply because the dark color palette doesn’t mesh as nicely with the rest of your look. Try going for lighter washes or even white jeans for spring and summer to brighten your wardrobe and make your color palette look a bit less heavy. Boyfriend jeans are also a trend that is still going strong and look perfectly casual which can be perfect for spring and summer when you don’t want to be suffocated by your pants. If you are unsure about boyfriend jeans or lighter washes, simply opt for a pair with some wear and tear with holes. Destroyed jeans are always cool looking and can make your outfit look perfectly relaxed.
4. Simple basics
This is kind of obvious, but having simple basics in your wardrobe makes putting together outfits infinitely easier. Seriously, having a range of simple tops can multiple the versatility of many of your wardrobe pieces. I suggest looking for simple tank tops and t-shirts in a variety of styles in neutrals. This spring especially, it seems that there is a lot of focus on simplicity and minimalism so this will let you create trendy outfits with a nice simple base, which often times creates a slick and cool overall look. Look at places like H&M, Free People, and Madewell for some great quality and versatile pieces.
5. Killer swimwear
This one is a bit more out there than the rest, but lately I have been loving looking at swimwear; especially one pieces. I’m not quite sure why, but this year there seems to be a huge influx of awesome one pieces that are super sexy and fun without carrying the “ugh a one-piece” stigma. There are so many swimsuits I’m eyeing currently and they are all equally as rad. Nasty Gal as well as ASOS and swim-specific shops have really trendy bathing suits at a range of prices. I am definitely going to embrace the one piece this year because they are so cool and different, and you never have to worry about losing a top or bottom!
It may seem difficult to put together cute outfits when it feels like a million and one degrees outside, but having some of these key pieces makes it so much easier. Incorporating these trendy yet simple pieces to your wardrobe, you will be able to make versatile outfits and look like a stunner while you’re at it.
